THE SCENE:

With its laid-back atmosphere, generous meal portions, live music and a seemingly never-ending flow of imported ales, it's no wonder 221B Baker St. Pub & Grill stays packed with a post-collegiate crowd on weekend nights.

Outside on the covered front patio, patrons gather around tables, drinking beer and sharing stories. The patio is great for those who want to carry on a conversation with ease and take a break from the smoke inside.

Dark-wood floors, Guinness paraphernalia and old prints of British socialites and sportsmen give the pub a decidedly English look and feel inside. The bar has a considerable selection of beers on tap including Guinness Stout, Boddington's Pub Ale and Belhaven Ale. More than two dozen longneck brands (including the nonalcoholic O'Doul's), specialty drinks (Mango Margarita) and an array of red and white wines also are available.

True to the tradition of English pubs, Baker St. offers a full pub menu featuring favorites like bangers and mash and shepherd's pie. Appetizers include British sausage rolls and Scotch eggs, just to name a few.

Comfy-cozy booths line one wall while tables and chairs are scattered throughout the middle of the pub. The best place for people watching is in one of the gazebo-esque booths near the entrance of the pub. These booths provide a great view of all comings and goings, the live band and revelers both inside and out.

Happy hour is from 2 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and all day on Sundays. That means $1.75 select domestic drafts, well drinks and wine, $2 select call drinks and $5 select domestic pitchers for all of you happy-hour chaps.

What more could a pub goer want or need? Games, of course. Baker St. offers pool, bar-top games, Golden Tee and darts.
